And the leaves fell

About 10 days ago we had a snowstorm come through and the snow stuck around for several days. A couple of days later it was followed by strong winds that sent a deluge of leaves onto the ground, all over the snow. Here are a few shots of those leaves. – Leslie

A reflective mood

Sometimes our mood reflects what the day gives us, on this day I was in need of a quiet walk to do some thinking on some of life’s moments. I paused to take in the scene in front me, the fog rising over the river and the sound of the rain gently falling around me; I thought I would share that moment with you. Leslie

Early September Snow

Making the best of a day that starts off feeling cold and gloomy, I decided to just get out there and enjoy it, the dog does!  Just think later this week it’s supposed to be plus 20 again.  Is winter trying to remind us that it is not that far away? – Leslie

Flowers in the bottom of the bucket

A few days ago I thought I would tidy up the yard.  After a bit of weeding and deadheading, I was about to empty the bucket when I noticed how pretty the various blossoms looked inside it.  I couldn’t resist taking some images of the spent flowers in the bottom of the bucket. – Leslie

Vignettes and short bits – More rippled reflections

Here are a few other ripple images that I have taken on various trips to the coast; it doesn’t have to be a sunny day to capture something interesting in the reflections on the water. – Leslie

Vignettes and short bits – Rippled reflections

When visiting communities on the west coast, it’s fun to get out for a walk (and of course the camera goes with me) in some of the waterfront parks and harbours, to see what interesting images there are to be had. With fishing boats and pleasure boats tied up at the docks the gentle movement of the water around them can make for some eye catching compositions. – Leslie

Short Bits – Frost patterns on the window

Recently I’ve been going through some of the backlog of images that haven’t been looked at for a while. Each of the following images were taken within minutes of each other but were processed on different occasions. Sometimes I just need a little time to think how I feel about an image before I can get started processing it. These were taken on one of my earlier visits with my Dad; it truly can get cold in the Vancouver area. I thought the last image below felt like the frost mimicked the cedar branches on the tree that was in behind. Leslie

Vignettes and short bits – Kicking myself for leaving my camera behind

This morning I took K’san for a walk at the off-leash park and left the camera behind – bad, bad, bad. I missed out on a great opportunity to capture some beautiful images. With a heavy frost the mud on the ground from the previous days rain, crunched beneath my feet as I walked along the trails at the park. The frost was sparkling on the colourful leaves as they waited for the sun to rise and melt the crystals away. I just seemed more aware than usual of my surroundings. So instead I had to settle for a few photos of the last of the frost that was in my back yard upon returning home. Here are a couple of favourites I took before the frost disappeared. Leslie

Vignettes and short bits – Welcome to Spring?

The date on the calendar may indicate that we are into spring but it sure doesn’t feel like it at -15°C and a wind this morning. Leslie is officially throwing in the towel and is no longer going to shovel off the whole back deck and will only shovel enough snow to get in and out of the doorway. In the front the piles of snow are taller than Mark, don’t think we will be planting any seeds in the ground very soon. – Leslie
