Transition to Winter Photo Tour – November 13th to 17th, 2019

Join Leslie and Mark Degner and Alan Ernst (from Aurum Lodge) on this tour that explores the “Transition to Winter” in the company of like-minded photographers. As this is a tour we have no planned classroom instruction as would be expected in a workshop, but Leslie, Mark and Alan will be on hand to help you with your photography questions.

November is a time when the mountains begin to dress for the coming winter; it’s a time of transition after the colourful leaves have dropped from the trees. The temperature drops and things begin to freeze, ice forms at the edges of the lakes and rivers, and snowflakes start to fly. Sometimes there will be mist rising over the lake in the morning and the sunrises and sunsets can reward us with dramatic fiery skies. Oh and I can’t forget to mention that sunrise and sunsets are at reasonable times of the day. Being the transition to winter, keep in mind that it can also bring significant snow, wind and very cold temperatures. But we will hope for great conditions and make the best of it.

No matter what the weather gives us there are always little jewels to be found if you just take the moments to open your eyes and look around. It can challenge you to look beyond the starkness at the end of fall, to see the subtle beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the treasures to be found there.

Evenings may find us reviewing, editing or critiquing our images from the days shoot, or possibly discussing various aspects of photography.

This tour is based out of the eco-award winning Aurum Lodge in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the Province of Alberta. The Lodge overlooks Abraham Lake in David Thompson Country and is approximately 35 minutes from the Banff Jasper Icefields Parkway (Hwy. 93). The area around the lodge has many great photographic locations and we may get the opportunity to photograph wildlife, such as Bighorn Sheep.

It is recommended that participants have a basic understanding of photography and are reasonably familiar with the gear they have and basic camera functions. Participants should be in reasonable shape and have the ability to hike short distances over rough terrain up to a couple of kilometers with their camera gear.

Tour package includes:

  • Four nights accommodation at Aurum Lodge
  • All meals and refreshments during the tour
  • Maximum of six participants

Price is C$1799 per person plus 5% GST, Shared occupancy is C$1549 per person plus 5% GST.

Deposit of 1/3rd is required at time of reservation, 1/3rd due by 3 months prior to the tour and the remaining 1/3rd at check in.

Transportation to and from the lodge is the responsibility of the participants. During the workshop participants will be expected to car pool, each taking a turn doing the driving to the field locations. This helps to reduce the environmental impact and some locations may not have much room to park.
