Fundamentals of Digital Photography Workshop

This workshop is designed for those who want to get a better grasp of their camera functions and learn how to create the photograph, not just click the shutter and hope for the best.  Leslie will help you understand the important camera settings and what some of those buttons, dials and menus on your camera do. She will talk about exposure and when to use your aperture or shutter speed modes, and provide an introduction to composition to help you create better photographs. For more information click here.

Women Only Photography Workshop

Our Women Only Photography Workshops are based out of the eco-award winning Aurum Lodge in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains of Alberta.  The Lodge overlooks Abraham Lake and is approximately a 35 minute drive from the Banff-Jasper Icefield Parkway (Hwy. 93).  The area around the lodge has many great photographic locations and opportunities to view and possibly photograph wildlife, including bears and bighorn sheep. To allow for as much individual attention as possible, the maximum number of participants in our Women Only Photography Workshops is seven.

Although the emphasis of our Women Only Photography Workshops is on outdoor and nature photography most of the principles covered can be applied to any photographic situation. Leslie and Mark have been photographing for over twenty years each and are successful stock and commercial photographers. Their photographs have appeared in numerous greeting cards, calendars, posters, brochures, books and magazines.  Mark is a contributing editor for Outdoor Photography Canada magazine.

Developing Your Photographic Style

Now that you have mastered using your digital camera and have learnt some of the fundamentals of digital photography, it is time to start to put your knowledge and skills into practice and start to create images that are a true representation of what you see and feel when you are photographing.

Through a series of short presentations, assignments and field exercises, and image critique sessions, Leslie and Mark Degner will help you to improve your understanding of photography and help you to develop the skills and techniques that will allow you to start to develop your own photographic style.

This fast-paced and fun workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced photographers. Although it would be best if participants have taken one of our “Beyond the Basics” workshops, it isn’t essential as long as you have a good understanding of how to use your digital camera and produce a “properly” exposed image. Participants will need to bring their own laptop computer and image processing software (Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop/Bridge, or Adobe Photoshop Elements/Bridge are preferred but if you use other image processing software that will be fine as well) so that you can process the photographs back at the Lodge that you have taken for the assignments and field exercises, as they will form the basis for the group critique sessions.
