Landscape and Nature Photography – Beyond the Basics – June 5th to 8th, 2014 – with Leslie & Mark Degner

Evening Light Abraham Lake

If you have been taking pictures for a little while and would like to get a better comprehension of digital photography, then this workshop is for you. In this workshop you will learn digital photography at a relaxed pace and in the company of like-minded women.

Who should take this workshop? It is designed for the advanced beginner or an intermediate level photographer.

Through a series of presentations and field excursions in the vicinity of Aurum Lodge, Leslie and Mark will help you to increase your understanding of photography and provide you with the knowledge to create photographs, not just take snapshots. Topics to be covered in the presentations and field sessions include: digital settings – optimizing your camera setup and the importance of the histogram; understanding exposure and its creative uses; light – recognizing it and working with it; composition – creating an image that works; and other topics depending on the needs and desires of the group. Participants are asked to bring a few digital images or prints, and Leslie and Mark can critique these images as well as images taken during the workshop if time permits.

This workshop is limited to a maximum of 7 photographers so there is lots of opportunity for one-on-one and small group instruction.

Although this workshop emphasizes the use of DSLR camera, photographers with mirrorless or point-and-shoot cameras will still find this to be a very useful workshop.  A detailed list of things to bring will be sent out to participants before the workshop.

This workshop is based out of the eco-award winning Aurum Lodge in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the Province of Alberta. The Lodge overlooks Abraham Lake and is approximately 35 minutes from the Banff Jasper Icefield Parkway (Hwy. 93). The area around the lodge has many great photographic locations and opportunities to view and possibly photograph wildlife, including bears and bighorn sheep.
